This refreshing Matcha, Apple and Lime Spritzer is a great alternative to a hot tea in the summer months.
Matcha is a really versatile ingredient. In it’s simplest form it’s one of the best tasting and healthiest drinks in existence, but it can also be used in many varied recipes. In Japan Haagen-Dasz and Kit-Kat produce matcha flavoured varieties, and there’s a never-ending list of new recipe ideas to be found online.
Sometimes I really crave the grassy flavour of a matcha, but at the same time I’m in the mood for something refreshing. The great thing is matcha tastes amazing cold too!
What’s so good about matcha?
Matcha is a high quality powdered green tea made from the Gyokuro leaves in Japan. The leaves are ground by stone until they create an ultra-fine powder. The difference between a matcha tea and a normal tea is that you consume the entire leaf itself, not just the tea flavoured water as with a traditional tea.
The tea has huge health benefits that take a full article in itself, and also tastes incredible. Stick with it, like some of the best flavours in life it may have to be acquired over time. Some people love the taste straight away and I was one of them!
